emma kunz based her visual work on the idea that geometry held healing powers and that shapes were sacred. this concept resonates with me on a visceral level - i remember making spirigraphs as child and being transfixed by their developing symmetrical complexities. there is something about emma's work that is both child-like and refined, and it seems to reflect some type of universal natural order.
in addition to her drawings, she was well know as a pioneer of the healing earth movement of the early 1940s, and discovered an important mineral/rock compound that is still widely distributed in swiss pharmacies for the treatment of many ailments.
